The Games FINAL: Love Island’s Wes Nelson and singer Chelcee Grimes crowned WINNERS

Chelcee Grimes and Wes Nelson were crowned the winners of The Games during the tense live final held at the Crystal Palace athletics track on Friday night.

The songstress, 30, and the Love Island star, 24, came top of the women’s and men’s leaderboards after racking up wins over the week with a series of sporting challenges on the track, in the pool and around the velodrome – while Wes was the overall winner with 45 total points. 

During the final the men and women took to the track to both compete in the 100m sprinting race, with Chelcee beating off stiff competition from Olivia Attwood, Phoenix Brown, Christine McGuinness, Rebecca Sarker, and Lucrezia Millarini to cross the line first.

Meanwhile in the men’s race Wes was streaks ahead of his opponents Ryan Thomas, Kevin Clifton, Max George, Josh Herdman, Colson Smith as he sprinted to victory. 

Talking after her win Chelcee said: ‘I did a Usain Bolt sign at the end! I want to say a huge thank you to all the girls and we have been through so much, we were all just racing individually and wow it’s just been amazing.’ 

Meanwhile speaking after his win Wes said: ‘I’m absolutely buzzing. For me it’s been more than just winning. This has been so good for my mental health, just being in and around sport again. I didn’t realise how much I missed it but this was the wake-up call I needed and 100%, I’m going to keep it up.’

‘But for me, truly, the biggest journey and the biggest transformation has been Colson, he deserves this trophy. He has been an absolute credit to this whole competition and has been an inspiration to all of us. All the guys have been absolutely incredible, we’ve made friends for life.’

Overall in the women’s Phoenix came second while Rebecca came third and in the men’s Ryan came second while Josh finished third overall.

Presenter Holly Willoughby said at the end of the show: ‘I’m made up for Chelcee, for the girls, for getting the gold. All of them have been amazing.’

Her co-host Freddie Filntoff added: ‘Wes has been such a good athlete, he’s won so many events. He’s a deserving winner.’

Earlier in the night the women’s speed climbing final saw Chelcee battle it out against Phoenix, with Phoenix narrowly winning in the tense race.

She said after the event: ‘That was so much fun, you were such a good competitor Chelcee.’ 

Lucrezia struggled in the speed climbing after developing a fear of heights due to an accident when she was younger.

She explained in a VT: ‘I was on holiday in Greece and I leant back on a balcony and fell to the ground. 

‘I was airlifted to Athens and it was the most terrifying experience of my life. So I will have an issue with the climbing to be able to trust the rope and lean back with my weight on it.’

Meanwhile in the men’s speed climbing event Wes continued his winning streak, beating Josh Herdman to the title in a very tight race.

During the final the women also competed in the weight lifting event, with Rebecca Sarker winning even after being given a foul in her first round.

Hosted live by Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff, The Games also featured former professional football player and presenter Chris Kamara as commentator. 

Through the sporting challenges, celebrities racked up points on the medals table as they went head-to-head to reach the top. 

As the leader board took shape with each night, the series culminated in an exhilarating final showdown in which one male champion and one female champion were crowned.
