The Voice smashes the ‘magic million’ mark for the THIRD night in a row as it continues to deliver strong ratings for Channel Seven

The Voice Australia is no one-trick pony for Channel Seven.

The singing competition attracted 1.066 million metro viewers on Tuesday, making it the most-watched entertainment show of the night.

This marked the third night in a row the program had brought in more than a million viewers in the five major cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

By contrast, Channel 10’s Australian Survivor had a metro audience of 664,000 in the 7:30pm time slot, beating Nine’s The Block which had 634,000 viewers.

The second episode of The Voice had recorded 1,162,000 metro viewers on Monday.

But it was Sunday’s season premiere that really sent shockwaves through TV land, scoring its biggest launch in five years with 1.33 million viewers in the capital cities.

This figure swelled to 1.91 million nationally, when regional viewers were included.

The Voice almost doubled the metro audience of The Block (747,000 viewers) on Sunday, and also blitzed Australian Survivor (609,000).

The Voice is hosted by Sonia Kruger this year, and its coaching panel comprises Rita Ora, Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy and Keith Urban.

The show had a strong lead-in after two weeks of Tokyo Olympics coverage on Seven, which saw the network achieve a high audience share.

The Voice had also been aggressively promoted throughout the Olympics.

The new season has a smaller budget and simpler format compared to previous years, with host Kruger saying it’s ‘all killer, no filler’.

Channel Seven slashed production costs to $20million, with half of that reportedly being spent on the superstar coaches’ salaries.

Seven acquired the rights to The Voice Australia after Nine failed to renew its contract last year after nine seasons.

The Voice Australia continues Sunday at 7pm on Channel Seven
