A bargain hunter has shared a lesser-known way to shop for specials at Woolworths to reduce your weekly grocery bill.

Elizabeth, from New South Wales, often shops for the best deals using the Woolworths app by filtering the cost from low to high.

Sharing images to a popular Facebook group, some of the deals included a $129 Telstra Prepaid Nokia 2.3 4GX phone and $99 Optus X Sight phone that had been reduced to just $5.

Others noticed $1 chocolate bars and $49 Kambrook kettles and toasters reduced to $7.35.

After posting the insight online many were shocked they weren’t aware of the in-app feature.

‘If you’ve ever got time to kill have a scroll through the specials in the Woolies app for ‘shop in store’ with price low to high – in stock at my local at the moment,’ Elizabeth wrote to the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group.

After choosing your preferred supermarket location, you can view the hundreds of products that are half price or on special under the ‘specials’ tab.

But products and stock numbers may vary across store locations.

Other customers thanked Elizabeth from sharing the helpful shopping tip.

‘Yay I know where I’m off to in the morning. Thank you,’ one woman wrote.

‘Love the $5 phones. I’ve purchased them over the last year or 2 for our 5 to use on WiFi so much cheaper than tablets,’ another added.

A third said: ‘So grateful for this page. I managed to score a $5 phone for my 10-year-old. He is beyond happy.’

But some recommend calling your local Woolworths to check for stock number if you’re seeking a particular product that’s likely to sell out – such as the $5 phones.

‘Please call the store for staff to physically check as stock availability viewing online is completely different when in store, saving you lots of precious time,’ one woman wrote.

‘Imagine if there was an option to filter out all of the unavailable products though. Why is it not a thing?’ another said.
