A thug who beat his ex to stop her having children and then threatened her from prison has been jailed for more than two years.

Thomas Skelton, 30, was initially jailed in January for 10 weeks at Oxford Magistrates Court attacking the woman in Grove, Oxfordshire.

Magistrates, who heard Skelton attacked her to ‘ensure we don’t have another child together’, also imposed a restraining order, which prevented him from contacting the woman.

But just days after being sent to HMP Bullingdon he began calling her and making chilling threats, The Mirror reported.

He called her at least 12 times between January 25 to March 12, Oxford Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor, Cathy Olliver told Oxford Crown Court, Skelton told the woman in a call: ‘you are mine’ and ‘you ain’t going to split up with me’.

In another call he said: ‘I am not going to leave you alone, I don’t care if I break the restraining order I will just go back to prison.’

Skelton admitted to police that he made the phone calls.

He said he had spoken to the woman about their daughter and admitted six counts of harassment through breach of a restraining order.

Defending Rhianna Fricker said Skelton ‘apologises’ for the initial violence that led to the restraining order.

She added that ‘he pleaded guilty as early as he possibly could’ and  ‘admitted it there and then’.

As he sentenced Skelton for two years and three months in jail, Judge Peter Ross called the assault a ‘nasty’ attack.

He said: ‘If the words spoken at the time are to be believed it was designed to ensure that your partner could not become pregnant again. A deeply unpleasant offence.

‘The phone calls were deeply unpleasant and must have been quite frightening, bearing in mind they were made in custody at the time. Your victim would have assumed she was safe from your attention.

‘If you breach this order again you will find that the court will have a higher starting point so if you are tempted bear that in mind.’

The judge added Skelton had ‘complete disregard’ for orders imposed by the court.

The court heard he had 42 convictions for 91 offences, including for battery and assault.

The restraining order imposed on Skelton is still in place.

Skelton was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
