A young girl has tragically died after falling 10 metres down a cliff while on holiday in Tasmania with her family. 

The girl and her siblings were on holiday from Victoria and the girl wandered away from her family after they had been on a day walk to the Sand River Conservation Area. 

The girl fell about 2.20pm on Friday afternoon near Buckland in Tasmania’s south-east, the ABC reported.

Emergency services, including police, paramedics and a rescue helicopter, rushed to the scene. 

However, the girl, whose name and age have not been released, was unable to recover from her injuries. 

‘It appears the child was walking along the edge of the clifftop when she slipped and fell,’ Tasmania police said in a statement on Friday night. 

‘CPR was administered but sadly the child died at the scene. Her parents have now been formally informed. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this difficult time.’ the spokesperson said. 

Officers are asking anyone who was in the area on Friday to contact them on 13 14 44 to ‘assist in preparing a report for the coroner’.
