Twitter details differences between school and college

It’s no secret that college often tends to be a whole different beast from high school – but not always in the ways you might expect.

Now, with freshmen just starting college and discovering for the first time the realities of higher education, they are taking to social media to express just how the experience has thus far failed to meet or far exceeded their expectations.

And so a trend was born. Dozens of students have taken to Twitter over the last few days to offer up their perceived differences between the teachers of their high school years and the professors they are working under now.

Day in class: A new social media trend sees students comparing their college professors to their high school teachers

Many students have joked that their college professors have not turned out to be the hard-marking control freaks their high school teachers led them to believe.

In fact, one Twitter user compared the two by describing the high school teacher as declaring: ‘I’m Mrs. Harda** and you will take me seriously!’ while the college professor says: ‘What up I’m Josh and class is cancelled cuz I’m tired.’

Others remember how their high school teachers banned food and drink in class, while college profs hand out cookies.

College profs are also depicted as being more open to bribery of candy, leaving early and even spending copious amounts of class time joking about memes.

Where they were led to believe that tests would be brutal, college students find their teachers giving everyone 100 per cent simply because ‘I woke up late.’

One user even quoted her professor as having said: ‘Please don’t write over two pages, I don’t want to grade all that.’

But it wasn’t just a difference in work ethic, as many revealed that they have seen a marked difference in how their teachers open up to the class.

One quoted their high school teacher as saying ‘you can’t know anything about my life,’ whereas their college prof declared: ‘I have a drinking problem.’

Students also marveled in the sudden change in attitudes to cell phones in their teachers, with several saying that they were banned from their high school classrooms.

In college however, students report their professors as saying things like ‘Hey guys! Tweet me!’ and ‘someone Google if a platypus is a mammal.’

One incredibly common complaint was that high school teachers preached that MLA format was the need-to-know way to write – and were then horrified to then have their college professors demanding APA format.
