Two men have been charged with manslaughter after a teenager was shot dead in the car park of a Welsh pub.

Peter Colwell, 18, died after the incident at the Ship Inn, Llanbedrog, in February this year.

His body was discovered just after midnight inside a parked vehicle.

Four defendants previously denied firearms offences but prosecutors have filed new charges after reviewing the case.

Ben Fitzsimmons, 22, of Pwllheli, and Ben Wilson, 28, of Ely, Cambridgeshire, stand accused of manslaughter.

Mr Fitzsimmons is also charged with possessing a loaded shotgun and Mr Wilson faces five firearms certificate charges.

Two other defendants – Harry Robert Butler, 22, of Llaniestyn, Pwllheli, and Michael David Fitzsimons, 24, of Nanhoron, Pwllheli – have been charged with possessing a loaded shotgun in a public place.

They all entered no pleas at Mold Crown Court and were bailed until their trial in May next year.

Following his death, Peter was described as a ‘lovely lad’ and a ‘gentle giant’ by his devastated family and friends.

In a statement released at the time, his relatives said: ‘Peter was a popular young man who loved fishing and field sports.

‘He left college last summer and went up north to work as a boy and came back a fine young man.

‘He will be sadly missed by his mother, father, family and many friends.

‘He loved his dogs and had just started a job he wanted more than anything. We as a family feel that we have lost a beautiful soul.’
