  • Many are comparing Chimaev to lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov

UFC fans have been going wild for Swedish fighter Khazmat Chimaev after he won his second fight in 10 days.

Chimaev, who achieved the two recent wins across different weight classes, made light work of Rhys McKee with a first round stoppage after he picked up the Northern Irish fighter, carried him towards his own corner and started going to work on him in the opening round. His monstrous showing in the welterweight fight earned him ‘performance of the night’.

Just ten days prior, Chimaev executed another first-round knockout on John Phillips in the middleweight division.

Fans have been comparing Chimaev’s demeanour and killer-instinct to no-other than current lightweight world champions Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Khabib is one of the most feared fighters inside the octagon as he boasts a perfect 28-0-0 record in the UFC.

One fan took to Twitter after Chimaev’s domination inside the first round, as he said: ‘Khamzat Chimaev is the next Khabib.’

Another fan said: ‘Khamzat Chimaev is the future. Best prospect I’ve ever seen. Khabib 2.0’.

The comparison did not stop there, as sports radio host Jim Rome joined in with the Chimaev hype and tweeted: ‘Holy crap Chimaev?! Khabib 2.0. The hype is real.’

Another fan was taken aback by the manner of both the Swede’s victories inside the octagon, as he said: ‘Chimaev is the next Khabib pure domination.’

The 26-year-old, who also strikes a resemblance to the Russian Nurmagomedov with his long beard and short hair, set a modern day UFC record after his second victory inside ten days.

His ten-day massacre of Phillips and McKee was the shortest span between octagon wins since the days of one-night tournaments.

He has also been gaining financially from his two quick-fire wins, as he has pocketed over $100,000 more than his fight purses due to his ‘POTN’ bonuses.

It is no wonder that Chimaev was rewarded for his performance in the welterweight bout with McKee, as he landed 68 strikes – 40 of them classed as significant strikes – whilst his opponent did not land a single finger on him.
