An urgent recall has been issued for a popular brand of shampoo sold at Priceline and Chemist Warehouse over concerns it contains a bacteria that could cause ‘serious illness’.
McPherson Consumer Products is recalling its A’kin Fragrance-Free Mild & Gentle Hypoallergenic Shampoo 225mL, which have been sold across the country.
Product Safety Australia on Tuesday said the item could be contaminated with Enterobacter gergoviae.

‘Cosmetic products contaminated with Enterobacter gergoviae may cause significant infection or illness, especially if the user is immuno-compromised,’ the safety watchdog said.
The batch number affected is AW1B01 which was sold between September 1 and October 11, 2021.
The product was available in Australia and overseas both in stores and online.
Product Safety Australia said consumers should immediately stop using the product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
‘Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice,’ the agency said.
