Vicky Pattison details her ‘painful’ recovery from egg retrieval as she gives an update on freezing

Vicky Pattison shared an update on her egg-freezing process on Thursday as she took to Instagram after undergoing the retrieval procedure.

The reality star, 35, shared a number of snaps from the hospital as she admitted that her recovery from the medical procedure has been more ‘painful’ and ‘difficult’ than expected.

Explaining that it had been a ‘challenging few days’, the brunette beauty did add the good news that 10 eggs had been retrieved.

Retrieval is part of the egg freezing process and is an ultrasound-guided procedure which usually takes 20–30 minutes, putting the patient under anesthesic.

And the update from Vicky is the latest in a string, where she has been keeping fans in the loop of her journey. But in the post, she revealed that some trolls had made her question whether to share the process.

Revealing that she has had some negativity while sharing on her egg freezing journey, the reality star admitted that it did get her down.

Explaining that the trolling did ‘put her off’ of sharing everything, she assured that she was feeling better now, writing: ‘I think that must have been my hormones playing havoc’.

Sharing a number of pictures, the first showed her kitted out in the hospital gown ready for the procedure.

While she could then be seen laying back in recovery as fiancè Ercan Ramadan was on hand to comfort her.

Getting candid with her body and sharing a natural snap in her underwear, Vicky showed a mix of the highs and lows.

Writing out a lengthy caption, she explained the process and recovery as she detailed how she has been getting on overall.

The star began: The surgery itself is pretty straight forward- I was put to sleep & when I woke up I was given the good news that 10 eggs had been retrieved.

‘During every stage of the retrieval process you can sort of expect that number to decline- so just for some perspective- I went in there with 12 follicles ready to be drained & the prospect of there being 12 eggs. Of course there was 10 in the end & we later found out that 9 of those were mature. A result we’re incredibly content with. There are more stages for our eggs to go through & we are just hoping that our good luck continues at the blastocyst process ♥️’

FREEZING YOUR EGGS: THE FACTS

Freezing eggs means going through the IVF process, which typically takes two to three weeks.

This involves taking drugs to boost the production of eggs, and also to help the eggs mature.

Once the eggs are ready, women are placed under general anaesthetic while they are collected – typically around 15 eggs, although this isn’t always possible for women with lower reserves.

Next, a freezing solution is added to the eggs to protect them, then they are frozen and stored in tanks of liquid nitrogen.

When the woman is ready to use the eggs, they are thawed and those that have survived intact are injected with sperm.

But moving on to the recovery stage, it hasn’t been a walk in the park for the former Geordie Shore star.

She continued: ‘I’ve found the recovery more difficult & dare I say painful than I anticipated- I know it’s different for everyone- but that’s just been my experience. So even though we’re feeling super blessed & very proud of our eggies the last few days have been quite challenging. But I went back to work today, I’m feeling more like myself and I’m super positive but also a little bit annoyed that I let a couple small minded, kn**head trolls put me off sharing my journey with you all last week.. I think that must have been my hormones playing havoc with my emotions making me think I was a weak *** b**ch.

‘But like I say, I’m feeling much more myself now and happy to catch you up on what you’ve missed! And for anyone who isn’t interested/doesn’t care/doesn’t agree with my decision… Keep scrolling, you don’t have to leave a weird comment. It’s unnecessary, mean and just makes everyone think you’re abit of an ar**hole’.

Vicky has recently explained that she doesn’t feel ready yet to have a child with her fiancé Ercan, 29, and believes by freezing both her embryos and her eggs it ‘relieves herself of the pressure’.

‘I was just freezing my eggs before but freezing embroyos has a better success rate so I am doing both,’ she tells New! Magazine.

‘I’m 35, but I don’t want a child right now. I’m not ready. No one’s ready, Ercan and I have been dating four years and he’s 29. The last thing I want to do is force him into a situation where he’s not confident or not ready and then he becomes resentful.’

Vicky adds due to her struggle to find the perfect wedding venue with the ‘wow factor’, they may find they end up having a baby before getting married.

‘The wedding process has been more challenging than I anticipated. We may not marry first, it might be the year after that as I don’t have to be married to have a baby. Everything will happen when it should.’
