Wayne Rooney’s Everton-supporting son Kai, 11, scores all four for Manchester United U12s in 5-4 defeat at Liverpool… showing he has his dad’s eye for a goal after an impressive start to his youth career

  • Kai Rooney scored four but still ended up on the losing Manchester United side
  • The 11-year-old was turning out for father Wayne’s former club at rivals Liverpool
  • Liverpool prevailed 5-4, the prodigy reported to fans following him on Instagram
  • Rooney junior has been prolific since joining the United academy last December

Kai Rooney, son of Manchester United and England legend Wayne, scored all four goals in an under-12s match for the Red Devils at Liverpool – only to finish the match on the losing side.

The 11-year-old followed in his father’s footsteps by performing heroics in front of goal for United’s youth team in a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Reds, who are also the arch-rivals of Wayne’s other main club team, Everton.

Rooney Junior kept fans up to date on his progress as he headed to the game in his United tracksuit on Sunday morning.

‘Lost 5-4,’ the prodigy reported back to his following of more than 36,000 afterwards. ‘Scored all four.’

United’s record scorer joined his son when the youngster signed for the club last December, calling it a ‘proud day’.

The boss of Championship side Derby, who netted 253 times for the Red Devils, runs Kai’s social media account with wife Coleen.

A video showing the younger Rooney converting a penalty against Everton has racked up more than 302,000 views since it was posted on the account in June.

That came a month after Kai scored a treble and provided three assists against Stoke in May – and that contribution was not in vain as the team won 6-3.

He could form a familiar partnership on the United teamsheet if he combines with Cristiano Ronaldo’s son, Cristiano Jr – an 11-year-old who is also part of the academy.

The trend of famous offspring emerging through the ranks at clubs has continued to spark fan curiosity in recent weeks.

Romeo Beckham, David Beckham’s son, appeared in his father’s right-wing position for Fort Lauderdale two weeks ago, turning out for the reserve side of the Inter Miami team the former England captain co-owns.

Harvey Neville, son of former United defender Phil – who manages the Inter Miami first team – is in the same reserve squad alongside Beckham Junior.
