‘We did some character building’: Lara Trump is slammed for posting video of her five-year-old son Luke crying on toy dumpster in the rain during Hurricane Ian

Lara Trump has been slammed online after she posted to Instagram a video of her five-year-old son driving a toy vehicle in the rain as Hurricane Ian battered Florida.
Lara lives in Jupiter, Florida with husband Eric Trump and their young son, Eric – who goes by his middle name Luke.
In the video, Luke can be seen shielding his eyes and clinching his knees together as he drives his toy vehicle in the heavy rain.
The Sunshine State is currently being battered by Hurricane Ian, which is lashing the west coast of Florida.
‘Thought we had a clear window, turns out we did some character building instead,’ Lara wrote in the caption. ‘Stay safe everyone!’
Lara can be heard in the video encouraging her son, saying: ‘Oh my God, Luke. Come on, you can do it, let’s go.’

Lara panned the camera to show the heavy rainfall in the area. She’s also heard encouraging her son in the video, saying: ‘Oh my God, Luke. Come on, you can do it, let’s go’

After the video was circulated by other Twitter users, backlash immediately ensued.
‘I don’t know what’s worse – that she did this to him, or that she filmed it and then posted it as some sort of brag,’ one user wrote.
‘I noticed she’s probably filming under an umbrella,’ one scoffs. ‘Maybe she already has enough character.’
But not everyone was critical of the video – with one user saying they would have ‘loved’ to be able to have done this as a child.
‘Okay, I’m going to play devil’s advocate here. This is something as a kid I would have loved to have done. I loved weather. When hurricanes were coming I was the one who wanted to be outside in them,’ another user wrote, before addding that it does not look like Luke is ‘having fun’.
Eric Trump brushed off all criticism when asked by the DailyMail.com about his wife being slammed for posting the video.
‘The heavens opened up while they were on a walk with the dogs,’ said Eric of the footage of his son filmed by his wife.
‘The rain came out of nowhere and they were 50 yards away from our home.
‘We posted another video of our daughter laughing having been caught in the rain and it was just two kids having fun.
‘Any criticism is outrageous and ridiculous, the hurricane is 250 miles away on the west coast and we are on the east coast.’
