Boris Johnson today branded Naga Munchetty’s interview questions ‘ridiculous’ after the BBC Breakfast presenter quizzed him about whether he believes he’s ‘relatable’ and his relationship with girlfriend Carrie Symonds.

The Prime Minister grew irritated when asked if he was a ‘family man’ and instead tried to steer the conversation back on to his core Brexit messages.

He also came under scrutiny by Munchetty over whether he has ever used a mop and how he makes a cup of tea.

The Prime Minister grew irritated when Naga Munchetty asked if he was a ‘family man’  and ‘I want to know why you’re relatable’

After probing Mr Johnson about his campaign policies, Ms Munchetty said she wanted viewers to understand more about the Prime Minister’s private life.

She said: ‘Give us an idea of what the family man is like. Your partner Carrie Symonds is campaigning, you’re a father, you’re on the campaign trail.

‘Why are you relatable to families up and down the country? How can they relate to you and your family?

The Prime Minister blustered: ‘Well I think err… the best answer I can give… of course I’ve been err… I’ve had a very happy and wonderful life in many many ways. I was the beneficiary of… my parents gave me fantastic opportunities, they brought me up to do everything I possibly can.

‘And what I want for every child in this country is to have a sense that they can achieve their full potential.’

The Prime Minister said ‘I don’t generally talk about my family. That’s a matter for other people, I can’t possibly say I’m relatable, what a ridiculous thing'

He then tried to steer the conversation back on to Brexit turf, citing the 2016 Leave vote as a barometer for public unhappiness

But determined to press him, Ms Munchetty interrupted: ‘No, no you’ve come away from…

Mr Johnson interjected: ‘I don’t generally talk about my family.’

Ms Munchetty again said she wanted to know why he was relatable, at which point the Prime Minister appeared to grow frustrated.

He said: ‘That’s a matter for other people, I can’t possibly say I’m relatable, what a ridiculous thing.’

The tetchy exchange continued when Ms Munchetty showed Mr Johnson a video of him mopping a floor in flood-hit Derbyshire.

She said: ‘This is why people perhaps don’t think you’re relatable, have you ever used a mop before?’

The Prime Minister vigorously defended himself, insisting he knows how to mop and that, despite Ms Munchetty’s withering assessment, he had ‘squeezed’ it.
