Why Dave Grohl lives a humble life with a family car and no property portfolio despite being worth $330M – as rocker reveals he’s fathered a child outside of his marriage to Jordyn Blum

As one of America’s greatest rock stars he has built up an impressive net worth of $330million.

Yet despite being worth more money than the average American could think of earning in their lifetime, Dave Grohl has always preferred to live a humble life.

This week, the singer, 55, shocked fans when it emerged he had cheated on his wife Jordyn Blum and fathered a child outside of his marriage.

While he expressed his love for Jordyn and their children, and stated that he is ‘doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness…’ fans have speculated if this could be the beginning of the end for their marriage.

It’s not clear whether the couple have a prenup in place.

However, if the couple were to split it might be easier to divvy up assets.

The Foo Fighters frontman has previously confessed he dislikes spending money, and only owns one house and one family car.

In 2001, Grohl paid $569,000 for a home in Sherman Oaks, California. He sold this home in July 2024 for $1.6 million.

He is now believed to live in a seven-bed nine-bathroom home in Encino, Los Angeles.

It’s believed he drives a RAM truck. The price of the newest vehicle – a 2025 Ram 1500 – starts at $42,270 and goes up to $89,070 depending on the trim and options.

In an interview with The Red Bulletin in 2017, Grohl said that he doesn’t agree with frivolous spending, saying: ‘It goes straight into my bank account, where it turns all moldy and smelly.’

He added: ‘I drive a family car — not a monster SUV, but a family car that fits five people.

‘I’ve got a house that is just big enough, too. I don’t waste my time thinking about how I could make more when I already got enough. I’m not a banker, I’m a musician.’

Grohl later confessed: ‘I may not come from a rich family, but I’ve never had to worry about survival.

‘In that sense, fun has always been the priority for me, along with things that help me move forward as a person and as a musician.

‘I don’t need even more money, cars, and gold chains — they don’t make you happy. And I’d rather be happy than stinking rich. OK, I might be rich, but I don’t stink.’

Grohl has also been vocal about giving back to those in need and regularly helps out at non-profits by cooking food for the homeless.

In February, he was praised by fans for spending Super Bowl Sunday helping the homeless at a barbecue in Los Angeles.

The musician and his friends spent 28 hours prepping, smoking and serving up 100 pork butts with the hope of feeding up to 1,800 homeless at The Woodlands Family Shelter in Woodland Hills, California.

Grohl’s mindset about money comes as a result of his mother, a public school teacher, having a stroke while filing her taxes.

He told the tale to The Guardian, saying: ‘I remember coming back to the house that night, alone with my sister and looking at the piece of paper she was writing to the IRS on as she started to have her stroke.

‘And it left this indelible mark on me that was “Money will kill you”, that people spend their lives dying inside because of money.’

While he may not have much in assets, it stands to reason that he has a tidy sum in the bank.

In a 2011 interview with Howard Stern, Grohl intimated that at the time Nirvana ended, his net worth was around $15 million. He was in his early 20s at the time.

Months after Nirvana disbanded he formed Seattle-born band Foo Fighters in 1994.

The success of the rock group has continued for decades – with the band holding 10 worldwide tours and selling over 30 million records.

Yet Grohl will no doubt be taking a break as he focuses on family after fathering a secret love child.

He made the announcement on Tuesday, posting on Instagram: ‘I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.

‘I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness,’ he wrote.

‘We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.’

Grohl and Blum have daughters Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10, together.

The couple met in 2001 and have been married since 2003.

Following his announcement that he had fathered a child outside his marriage, his two older daughters both took down their social media accounts.

His admission about marital infidelity followed an admission to The Guardian in 2007 that he had also cheated on his first wife, Jennifer Leigh Youngblood.

The two married in 1994 but had separated by 1996, and they divorced the following year.

In the same Guardian interview, Grohl said: ‘[My wife] Jordyn and [daughter] Violet are anchors that keep me from completely disappearing.’

Speaking to TIME in 2012, he said his family ‘changed everything that I do.’

He added: ‘It’s changed everything that I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.’

While little is publicly known about Blum, People reported she once appeared on the cover of Teen, after being discovered at a supermarket when she was 12.

She was reportedly working as a producer at MTV when she met the frontman.

But Grohl told Elle in 2007 that he was not ready for a serious relationship when they first met, and stopped calling Blum after a few dates.

He shared: ‘After three months, I had a revelation and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, “Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.”‘

Blum has collaborated wit the Foo Fighters several times, including in the band’s 2002 video White Limo, where she made an appearance.

She also co-directed the Foo Fighters 2002 Walking a Line music video.

Following the shock announcement, video has resurfaced of the most recent time Grohl was spotted in public with Blum.

The rocker was spotted by a BBC Sport reporter who proceeded to quiz him on his predictions for the winners of the Wimbledon Championships, which took place in July in London.

Many of the spectators were excited to catch the high-profile matches, but Grohl sounded annoyed and dismissive as he walked past the reporter and offered gruff, clipped responses.

Several commenters on the TikTok clip at the time noted that the usually gregarious Grohl was in an unusually foul mood, with one summing it up: ‘Dave has been acting slightly p***y recently.’

‘Dave, can I quickly get your prediction for a Wimbledon winner, please?’ the interviewer asks as he holds a microphone out to the drummer-turned-guitarist.

‘What?’ Grohl says with a quizzical look on his face.

‘Who do you think is going to win Wimbledon?’ the reporter rephrases himself, to no avail.

‘What?’ Grohl says again with the same exaggerated expression, though he appears to break into a slight smile at the last second.

‘Who’s gonna win?’ the determined reporter continues. ‘How about the men’s [tournament]?’

‘No clue,’ Grohl responds in a less dismissive manner while walking past with his wife Jordyn by his side.

‘The women’s [winner]?’ the reporter adds.

‘Couldn’t say,’ the singer shoots back before heading on his way.

Dave gave gruff and clipped answers to a BBC Sports reporter, and one TikTok commenter summed it up: ‘Dave has been acting slightly p***y recently’

Several fans defended Grohl against claims that he was acting ‘pi**y’ during the brief clip.

Some fans speculated his awkward encounter was due to the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in March 2022, as well as the death of his mother in August of that year.

Some fans speculated that Grohl was merely trying to be humorous with his short responses and his apparent confusion about what the interviewer was asking him, possibly due to his accent.

But others suggested he may have avoided answer because he was ‘clueless about tennis.’

‘He’s not being pi**y he simply hasn’t a clue about who is playing etc.,’ one fan suggested in the comments.

While some suggested that Grohl could have more politely brushed off the reporter, other commenters claimed parasocial fans would have found something to be upset about by any response he gave.
