Onlookers described the scene as ‘worrying’, with reports of a defibrillator being used on the collapsed spectator.

Journalist Klaus Belastet was on the scene where he reported the scene as ‘very critical’. It is understood a woman received treatment.

Another witness said a stretcher had been used to ferry the spectator off court.

The sound the emergency service response was heard from other courts, with one fan saying: ‘You could hear it when Andy’s doubles was on. I was thinking that there isn’t a main road near there. I hope everything is ok.’

Play continued on court at around 5pm however, as both players – who appeared ‘shocked’ – were allowed back on court alongside spectators.
