In a statement to Daily Mail Australia given while the show was still live and the outcome undecided, a Channel Nine representative said that the issue was not widespread and happened due to the immense amount of votes.

The representative stated: ‘We have had an overwhelming number of votes throughout the week.

‘Hundreds of thousands of votes have been coming through during tonight’s show which has caused some technical problems for a small number of viewers, however votes are continuing to flow through.

‘The technical problem has now been solved. We appreciate everybody’s support for the artists and the show. Voting is still open.’

Host Sonia Kruger stated during the episode that the votes were closer than ever before in the show’s history, and that almost one million votes had been counted.

Once she was crowned the winner, Diana was lost for words, saying:  ‘I’m overwhelmed. I’m overwhelmed. I am dribbling everywhere. I am honoured. Thank you Australia.’

Runner up, Melbourne busker Daniel Shaw, a fan favourite, took his defeat graciously.
