Wolves star Raul Jimenez admits he would struggle to ignore offers from Real Madrid and Barcelona

‘It is obvious that you do not let such an opportunity go’: Raul Jimenez admits he would struggle to ignore offers from Real Madrid and Barcelona should Spanish giants make approach for in-form Wolves star

  • Raul Jimenez has conceded he would struggle to ignore Madrid or Barcelona
  • The in-form Wolves striker has attracted interest from top European clubs
  • The Mexican has long insisted he is happy in the west midlands at the moment
  • However, he admitted that an offer from the Spanish clubs could be tempting

Raul Jimenez has conceded that it would be difficult to ignore the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona should the pair express an interest in signing the in-form Wolves striker this summer.

The Mexican hitman has fired 22 goals for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in all competitions, backing up his fine debut season in English football when he joined on loan from Benfica.

Jimenez’s goals and assists have fired Wolves well into contention for Champions League football, while they are still in the hunt for Europa League glory this season.

The 28-year-old has attracted interest from a host of top European clubs, with Manchester United said to be interested while Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan said the Mexican would be suitable for the reigning league champions.

And the two Spanish giants – Real Madrid and Barcelona – are also said to be keen on the striker.

Jimenez has long insisted that he is happy in the west midlands, but admitted he would struggle to ignore those clubs should they come in for him.

‘I find out (about the links with other clubs) through social media,’ he said to ESPN. ‘They have already put me at Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and every day comes out a new team that want (to sign) me.

‘I have to be calm. If they are talking about me it is because I am doing things well. I would like to continue in England. I am happy, adapted and I like the idea (of staying in the Premier League).

‘If you tell me that tomorrow an offer from Real Madrid or Barcelona comes, it is obvious that you do not let such an opportunity go.

‘But if I stay here I am fighting to qualify for the Champions League, for important things. Fighting for the title still seems difficult but we are in the Europe League round of 16. I think that I made the right decision to come here and I do not regret it.’

For now, the goal remains on securing Champions League football next season. The Premier League season has been interrupted since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic but, should it return, Wolves will be looking to land a spot in European football’s elite club competition.

‘Leaving the doors open for anything is the most important thing,’ he added. ‘With Wolves we are fighting for the Champions League, I am happy and I am an important player for the fans and for the team.

‘I am open to whatever comes but it does not stop me sleeping.’
