Women’s TOPLESS flashmob demands equality in Finland after sunbather arrested for showing breasts

Helskimpy! Women stage TOPLESS flashmob to demand equality in Finland after female sunbather was arrested for revealing her breasts

  • They’re challenging attitudes to toplessness in Helsinki by stripping off
  • The pair are trying to confront sexualisation of the nipple and gender inequality

A group of topless women bared all on a Finnish beach for a ‘t**s flashmob’ to protest against police being called on a sunbather who chose to show her breasts in public.

Säde Vallarén, 30, and Sandra Marins, 28, told MailOnline that nearly 50 people turned up to free their nipples and to take a plunge in the Baltic Sea in June.

They said they were trying to challenge negative attitudes to toplessness in Helsinki and, although the flashmob was okay for the most part, they added: ‘Some people were just filming us on their phones, which was, you know…a bit rude.’

They said responses to the event were generally positive, and that one of the attendants even joked about the men having ‘bigger t**s’ than the women, according to the Helsinki Times.

The main event was the women and men walking, linked arms, into the sea with their tops off.

The pair said that the ‘euphoric feedback’ they received had spurred them on and that they would keep holding events like this ‘until people stopped asking questions.’

For this Saturday, they expect a lower turnout due to bad weather but did say ‘this weekend it will be a bit cold but we will be there and we will be…topless.’

The event was staged in relation to the International Free the Nipple movement which has seen a number of similar protests where members of the public expose their chest in pursuit of gender equality.

‘Free the Nipple’ has gained international recognition since it started in 2012 with many celebrities, most notably Miley Cyrus, revealing their uncensored breasts to draw attention to the sexualisation of nipples.

The women plan to return for another topless demonstration on Saturday... even though it is expected to be a bit nippy in comparison to the sunny weather they enjoyed here
