Lionel Messi led Argentina to World Cup glory on Sunday afternoon, beating the defending champions France 4-2 on penalties after drawing 3-3 during the 120 minute game.

The fixture at the Lusail Stadium will go down in history as one of the greatest World Cup finals ever. Argentina dominated the opening 80 minutes and went 2-0 up. However, France came from behind twice to take Messi’s side to penalties.

Despite being on the losing side, Kylian Mbappe was a standout performer. He became the first player to score a hit-trick in World Cup final since Sir Geoff Hurst in 1996 for England.

The magnitude of what took place on Sunday became a leading topic of conversation between Chris Sutton, Ian Ladyman, Oliver Holt and Ian Herbert in the latest edition of our World Cup Confidential videocast from Qatar.
