The moment young boy cried hysterically after he was told Malcolm Turnbull was ousted as Prime Minister has been caught on camera.

The five-year-old boy from Perth was devastated by Friday’s Liberal leadership spill that saw Scott Morrison take Australia’s top job.

The video was filmed by the boy’s mother, Helen, who shared it with Perth Now.

‘I want Malcolm Turnbull,’ the boy screamed while tears streamed down his face.

Helen said her son had begun to recover on Saturday after a good night’s sleep allowed him to feel more positive.

‘He’s fine this morning, we had a chat about Malcolm going to spend more time with his grandkids,’ she said.

‘He loves general knowledge. He was proud he could tell a teacher who the PM was – so I guess the change took the wind out of his sails a bit.’

Malcolm Turnbull welcomed his first day of retirement by enjoying an early-morning walk in Canberra on Saturday.

In a picture shared to social media, the former PM appeared to be in high spirits as he posed alongside family.
