‘My book was delivered to my publisher, Penguin Random House, prior to the date that Ms Brennan claims I saw her draft manuscript.’

Ms Brennan, from Melbourne, claims she finished the novel Playlist in February 2012, and showed it to a mentor in April the following year, according to the Herald Sun.

Documents lodged to the court claim Ms Brennan’s mentor told her she was ‘really good friends’ with Ms Foster Blake, and this allowed her access to the novel.

Ms Foster Blake’s novel – which was turned into a television series starring Jessica Marais – was published in February 2014.

Ms Brennan said Ms Foster Blake did not have permission to use her work and she was unable to stop the alleged plagiarism because she had no idea it was happening.

‘A substantial part of my work has been adapted and reproduced in material where Zoe Foster Blake has reworded my work, but the meaning of those words remains the same,’ her claim read.

Ms Brennan wants an account of profits and reimbursement for her legal costs, but she will not seek damages.

Ms Brennan declined to comment when contacted by Daily Mail Australia.
