ARIA Awards 2023: Jet is inducted into the Hall of Fame for their 2003 hit single Are You Gonna Be My Girl

Legendary Australian rock band Jet was inducted into the Hall of Fame during the 37th ARIA Awards on Wednesday night.

Known for their 2003 international hit Are You Gonna Be My Girl?, Jet soared up the charts that same year with their acclaimed debut album Get Born.

The veteran hitmakers – frontman Nic Cester, drummer Chris Cester, bass player Mark Wilson and guitarist Cameron Muncey – took to the stage to accept the honour.

‘There are some truly tragic, atrocious things taking place around the world,’ Nic, 44, said during his acceptance speech.

‘It’s often in moments like this I’m reminded of the importance of art and music. Music has always been an antidote in our lives during troubled moments.

‘A place of refuge where thoughts, feelings and emotions can be processed and sometimes shared in a way that can bring people together.’

Later the band set the house rocking when they played a six-minute medley of some of their biggest hits including Are You Gonna Be My Girl and Look What you’ve Done.

‘With [our 2003 album] Get Born, we were able to capture lightning in a bottle and I don’t know how we did it,’ Nic Cester told the Sydney Morning Herald in September, soon after ARIA announced Jet as an inductee into the Hall of Fame.
