‘My husband to be’: Ashley Cole’s fiancée Sharon Canu pays tribute to the former footballer as they unwind in Cannes – weeks after confirming their engagement

Ashley Cole was given a ringing endorsement from his Italian fiancée on Sunday, just weeks after asking for her hand in marriage.

The former Chelsea and England defender, now a first team coach with Everton, proposed to Sharon Canu in March – eight years after meeting the brunette while playing for Serie A side Roma.

And the couple looked happier than ever while posing for Instagram photos during  a pre-season break, with Sharon draping an arm across Ashley’s shoulders as they unwound on a picturesque beach in Cannes.

Captioning the shot, which is no longer visible on her social media feed, she wrote: ‘My husband to be.’

The Italian model, who raises two children with Ashley, looked radiant in a colourful patterned jumpsuit as the couple spent time in coastal La Guérite.

The former footballer looked equally relaxed in casual cream summer shirt and shorts while posing alongside his fiancée.

Now back in the UK, Ashley has reportedly spent thousands on a security dog for his family after he and his fiancée were held at knifepoint by robbers who broke into their home.

Sharon shared an Instagram snap of the German Shepherd in training, according to The Sun.

Ashley’s Surrey mansion was broken into by masked raiders in January 2020, with a jury played a chilling 999 call from Sharon, begging for help from police to stop the burglary.

The former footballer’s first marriage, to pop star Cheryl Tweedy, ended just two years after their lavish 2006 wedding ceremony over claims of multiple infidelities with other women.
