Brazen daredevils have been caught on camera travelling on the roof of a moving bus.

Footage shows two young ‘bus surfers’ ride on top of the vehicle in Nightcliff in Darwin’s north this week.

One of the men was seen standing and running along the roof as the bus travelled through an intersection.

The pair’s behaviour has been slammed by police and the Transport Workers Union.

‘Northern Territory Police strongly discourage this kind of behaviour. It puts at risk the lives of not only the people engaging in this dangerous behaviour, but everyone around them,’ a police spokeswoman told NT News.

South Australia-Northern Territory union branch secretary Ian Smith said bus drivers wouldn’t know if someone had climbed on the roof.

‘Unless someone tells them, drivers are unlikely to know because of the noise of the bus,’ he told the paper.

‘Some buses do 70-80 km/h – even more in outlying areas – so if someone was to come off at that speed, I don’t know how the driver is supposed to react… This could be a catastrophe.’

Buslink NT is assisting police with their investigation and has provided further CCTV footage.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Northern Territory Police for comment.
