A baby boy has been killed in a tragic accident on a farm in Western Australia on Christmas Day.

The 14-month-old died after being hit by a car on a farming property in Grass Patch, north of Esperance, in the state’s south-east.

The accident occurred at about 11am on Christmas morning.

The parents of the 14 month old rushed the toddler to the intersection of Swan Lagoon Road and the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway (pictured) to meet a crew from St John Ambulance

The remote location of the accident meant the family had to travel from their property to the meet paramedics at a nearby highway.

The toddler was then taken to the Esperance Health Campus, but was unable to be revived.

Esperance Shire President Ian Mickel told PerthNow the accident was devastating for the community.

‘It’s extremely sad for them. Particularly, a rural community like Grass Patch that is small and close knit,’ he said.

‘On Christmas Day to hear that is really, really disappointing for any family. I pass on my condolences and my feelings of bereavement for people in the Grass Patch area.’

It comes four months after the death of a 14-month-old girl at a private property east of Perth.

She was killed after being hit by a car in a driveway in Caversham.
