Inside Liam Gallagher’s agonising health struggles – from having a hip replacement after suffering crippling arthritis to his battle with psoriasis

Liam Gallagher has revealed that he is on a health kick to ‘undo years of partying’ after struggling with arthritis and combatting an autoimmune condition.

The Oasis singer, 51, told how his age is catching up with him after years of drinking and drug taking but that he now has a very different lifestyle.

Liam has said how he now has gets up at 4am every day in an attempt to live a cleaner, healthier life.

After years of notorious partying while part of Oasis, he has battled a number of different health-related issues.

From requiring a major hip operation to suffering from psoriasis that forced him to wear gloves around the house all day, here is a look at Liam Gallagher’s various different health struggles in recent years.

Hip replacement due to arthritis

In February 2023, Liam revealed that he had undergone a major hip operating after crippling arthritis caused him to suffer from severe joint pain.

Breaking the news to fans on X, formerly Twitter, at the time, he wrote: ‘Morning Rastas so I had my Hip operation last wk [week] all went well and RESPEK [respect] to all the doctors n nurses who looked after me Big shout out to the A team for getting us home safe n sound.

‘You know who you are and Florence guru I love and adore you Riverdance here I come LG x’.

Speaking to MoJo Magazine in June 2022, he said: ‘My hips are f*****… I’ve got arthritis, bad. I went to get it checked and my bones are mashed up.’

Hip replacement surgery sees the damaged hip joint replaced by a prosthetic impact and has a recovery time of around six weeks.

‘The lady was going ”you might need a hip operation, a replacement” – no way. You’re all right… I think I’d rather just be in pain, which is ridiculous, obviously. I know that – just get them fixed.

‘But it’s also the stigma, saying you’ve had your hips replaced… I can’t sleep at night for the pain, tossing and turning.

‘So I’m on the herbal sleeping tablets and they’ve saved my life. One of them seven hours out – no pain, nothing.’

His arthritis stemmed from a thyroid problem, Hashimoto’s disease, which sees the immune system start to attack that area of the body.

If left untreated, it can cause the vocal cords to swell, leading to a hoarse voice.

Struggle with psoriasis that was confused for cocaine

In November 2020, Liam took to social media once again to share his health struggles, revealing that he had resorted to wearing gloves around the house after battling psoriasis.

That came after he revealed three years earlier how one fan had confused the skin condition for cocaine.

‘I remember coming off stage and I got my clothes robbed,’ he told Noisey back in 2017. ‘I [also] remember meeting someone, some very strange kid, who come up to me and thought I had cocaine in my hair.’

He explained: ‘I got psoriasis [skin condition that causes itchy, scaly rashes] so I had obviously been scratching it during the day and that, and there were little white bits and shit.

‘They were taking it out of my hair and putting it on their gums and putting it up their f***ing nose!’
