Chelsea have seen a £35million bid for Manchester City youngster Cole Palmer rejected by the Premier League champions.

The Blues’ interest in the forward surfaced on Wednesday following days of reports linking the club to the likes of Brennan Johnson, Ansu Fati and even Emile Smith Rowe as they look to snap up yet another promising forward.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have now seen their opening offer turned down, according to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg

Palmer got off to a flying start this season by scoring in the Community Shield and European Super Cup, having played a role in England’s triumph at the Under 21 European Championship.

But following City’s penalty shoot-out success over Sevilla in Greece, boss Pep Guardiola cast doubt on the youngster’s future at the club and admitted that he was unsure where his future lies.

Cole Palmer could be on his way out of Manchester City despite the Premier League champions turning down Chelsea’s opening bid reportedly worth £35m

Man City completed the £55million signing of winger Jeremy Doku from Rennes this month

‘The opinion I had when he arrived is he wanted to leave, but now I don’t know what’s going to happen.’ he told reporters. ‘I don’t think a loan is going to happen. He’s going to stay or going to sell, but I think a loan is not going to happen.’

‘I understand he wants to be more active than the previous season.

‘But Riyad [Mahrez] has gone so we have one more place there. I cannot say anything because, of course, all the decisions need to be made by the club. The club has to decide what the best is. All together, we will do it.’

Since those comments the club have welcomed the new £55million signing Jeremy Doku who could block Palmer’s path to the first team.

Indeed, the starlet has been an unused substitute in the Premier League champions’ last two games and only saw ten minutes of action against Burnley on opening night.

Chelsea are likely to return with a second bid for the winger who also attracted interest from West Ham and Sheffield United. Though the Stamford Bridge outfit are under pressure to complete a deal before Friday’s transfer deadline.
