An AFL star and his wife have welcomed their second child into the world despite losing a core member of their family just three days before.

Western Bulldogs player Mitch Wallis, 29, and Emily Wallis looked overjoyed in pictures snapped in Sunshine Hospital, Melbourne, with their new bundle of joy, William, who was born on Sunday morning.

But it comes just days after Emily lost her mother in a fatal hit-and-run incident on Thursday that has left the sport-minded family reeling with shock and grief, something Mitch acknowledged in his son’s birth announcement on Sunday night.
