A 34-year-old Gold Coast man has been charged after allegedly dumping a woman’s body in bushland on Tuesday afternoon, leaving her fighting for life as he fled the scene on foot. 

Shane Anthony Horne did not appear at Southport Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where he is charged with failing to supply necessities of life, unlawful possession of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence and obstructing police.

Horne was allegedly seen by locals arriving at Plantation Crescent in Maudsland on a motorbike about 4pm and dumping the woman, who was suffering severe injuries, The Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

A security guard approached the man, and he allegedly fled the scene on foot, sparking an extensive manhunt. 

Police and a dog squad were able to track him down, and video shows several officers working to restrain him as he was dramatically arrested about 6.30pm. 

The woman was able to be resuscitated by paramedics and rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition. 

A spokesman for Queensland Police told Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday her condition is improving. 

Horne did not apply for bail, and will reappear on August 6.
