Some Australians are choosing to celebrate Valentine’s Day very differently this year by gifting their friends or partner a Breakup Box.

South Australian gin company Never Never Distilling Co. came up with the idea – and it is quickly becoming a popular way for people to dump their partner ‘in style’.

The alcohol brand said it’s the perfect gift to remind a friend not to get back with ‘that ex’ or a peace offering left on the doorstep of a partner alongside the basket of returned hoodies, toothbrushes and phone chargers.

The Breakup Box has been described as a tongue-in-cheek way of saying ‘we are Never Never getting back together’ this Valentine’s Day.

‘Valentine’s Day is a conspiracy created by card manufacturers and florists to make money off people’s misguided interpretation of what romance is or needs to be,’ Never Never Co-Founder and Brand Director Sean Baxter said.

‘So here at Never Never, we thought we may as well do the same when it comes to the way people decide to part ways. There’s nothing wrong with celebrating the moment in time you stop speaking to someone.’

Even if the gift doesn’t hit the mark, the recipient can enjoy the Grenache Gin, which was named Australia’s Best Flavoured Gin in 2022.

The rose red gin has a berry flavour and is made with triple juniper gin and grenache grapes from South Australia’s McLaren Vale.
