Palace aides try to avoid ‘diary clashes’ between William, Kate, Harry and Meghan

The palace tries to ‘avoid diary clashes’ between William, Kate, Harry and Meghan to avoid any ‘competition’ between the couples, a royal expert has claimed.

Katie Nicholl, author of Harry and Meghan: Life, Loss, and Love, says that courtiers are hoping to avoid ‘any future clashes or conflict of interest’ between the royals – before referring to their upcoming tours in the autumn.

‘I would expect the palace would have tried to have planned it so there weren’t be too many clashes as the Cambridges will be putting the spotlight on Pakistan and the Sussexes will be shining their light on Africa,’ she told The Sun.

She added: ‘I think that’s why where courtiers can avoid diary clashes they will, because they’ll be keen to avoid any sense of competition between the couples.’

The royal expert went on to explain it is more likely clashes will occur now that Harry and Meghan’s royal household is based at Buckingham Palace.

‘What courtiers will be hoping is that there aren’t going to be any future clashes or conflict of interest or the chance to pit one couple against the other,’ she told the publication.

It comes after rival attempts to attract public attention to the young royals sparked senior figures of the Royal Household to call for better diary coordination.

In May, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted pictures of their children – Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one – at Kate’s garden at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Just hours before the event, Harry and Meghan had celebrated their first wedding anniversary by revealing a collection of behind the scenes photos from their wedding day.

The two households had previously been rumoured to have been embroiled in a rift, and then appeared to engage in what seemed to be a game of one-upmanship.

Speaking to the Daily Express, one royal watcher said it was a case of ‘anything you can do we can do better’, while another source said that the schedules of the two households needed to be looked over.

The source said: ‘Our diary planning could be better.’
