The X Factor’s Sam Black defends his comeback

He was sent packing during The X Factor’s bootcamp stage, only to be given the chance to redeem himself when another contestant pulled out.

And Sam Black, who has already survived the first live show, has now admitted that people thought his comeback was a ‘set-up’ before going on to address criticism that his return was ‘unfair.’

The 20-year-old had also proposed to his other half Emma Smith on the show before he was given the boot the first time, and has now confessed he was worried it would go ‘terribly wrong’ with ‘five people saying no to him.’

With plans to get married and a tease of a glamorous new life in the limelight, it’s no surprise Sam’s positive demeanour as he poses happily with the love of his life Emma and his young son, Mason. 

However, speaking to the publication Sam got serious as he addressed viewers of The X Factor labelling his return as a fix after his shock was captured on camera when he was told he was returning to the series. 

Sam admitted: ‘They told me they were doing a follow-up story on the engagement. 

‘A lot of people online have claimed it’s a set up. They’ve said “why is he looking shocked as he obviously knows he’s going through”. But I didn’t.’

Clearly humble on his own talents, the hunk revealed that he understood why people thought his return was ‘unfair.’

‘If I was watching it myself I would feel the same. People love Benji (Matthews) and the others as they’re brilliant singers. But it wasn’t my decision – I was asked back,’ he defiantly admitted. 

Meanwhile, Sam’s proposal to stunning Emma has been one of the highlight’s of this series – but he admitted that a lot of planning and worry went on beforehand.  

He revealed: ‘I always wanted it to be a special moment but I could never think of the right time. I thought, there will be a big audience and it would be great moment to do it.’

‘Emma’s parents and my parents knew. I was worried about what Emma might do when I asked her to get up on stage. 

Confessing his fears on the planned proposal, he revealed: ‘It could’ve gone terribly wrong. I could have ended up with five people saying no!’

‘I just thought I’m never going to get this opportunity to make the biggest gesture I could do. I thought it was now or never. I told a few of the researchers on the show because one of them had to bring the ring out on stage.’

Despite his hectic schedule on the ITV show, Sam has admitted they’re doing all that they can to plan for the wedding: ‘I’m really busy at the moment, but if I can come out of this with a few bob then I’ll give Emma the wedding she deserves.

‘It’s Emma’s day and whatever she wants, I’ll give her,’ he revealed, clearly smitten.

The singer has continued to win over the judges, who loved his performance on Saturday, and survived Saturday’s first vote-off, which saw Spencer Sutherland sent home and Talia Dean the next day 

On his rock n’ roll performance, Sharon said: ‘You are so likeable, I just want you to do well. However you know you’ve got a tough ride ahead of you. You know what your competition is. You did really well.’

Nicole said: ‘You’re just a tall glass of refreshing for me. It’s all positive, it’s lots of fun. I got faith in you baby

Louis said: ‘You’re so down to earth. You need to start believing in yourself.’
