Woman baffles the internet after using vinyl on her kitchen walls and BELT COVERS on her fridge

A Kmart ‘hack’ gone wrong: DIY mum baffles the internet after using vinyl on her kitchen walls and BELT COVERS on her fridge handles to ‘keep them clean’

  • An Australian woman has transformed her kitchen with Kmart vinyl adhesive
  • She covered her benchtops with white marble, her fridge and the rangehood
  • While she was proud of the final product some people found it rather strange
  • People also felt as though the tape would ‘bubble’ around the oven area

A crafty home decorator has proudly shown how she used Kmart vinyl adhesive to transform her kitchen, but not everyone is impressed by her budget ‘hacks’.

The woman, who is based in Queensland, purchased a number of $3 marble and plain black vinyl sheets from the Australian retailer, as well as $5.14 vinyl ’tiles’ from Bunnings Warehouse to create a splashback.

She posted photos on Facebook of what her house looked like before and after using the high quality stickers and received a number of different responses.

Some people thought it was ‘amazing’ and brought life back to the yellowed surrounds, while others pointed out the potential problems with placing vinyl over the rangehood.

‘Please be careful where you put vinyl in the kitchen. It is flammable and not suitable near stoves or other heat sources. I would think it would void insurance,’ one woman said.

Another was surprised to see a cover had been placed over the fridge handles and wanted to know what it was.

‘Are they seat belt covers on the fridge handles?’ She asked. The woman replied by saying she put them on because ‘her handle was always getting dirty’.

‘You use a bank card and run it along the vinyl making sure all of the air bubbles are out and its smooth,’ the woman said.

Many commenters who had tried the vinyl themselves said it lasted between six months and two years depending on how wet it got from the kitchen sink

And it’s easily removed with the use of a hairdryer, which heats the paper enough to release it without damaging the surface it’s stuck to.

Overall people were pleased with her efforts, saying she had the ‘patience of a saint’ to wrestle the sticky substance onto so many products.
