Adelaide Strikers have made Big Bash League history after chasing down Hobart Hurricane’s monster total after an incredible effort from skipper Matt Short.

The opener hit an unbeaten century to reach the Hurricane’s 230-run target after Ben McDermott, Caleb Jewell and Zak Crawley all hit half centuries in the first innings.

But Short – after being dropped on his first ball – put on a masterclass in clean hitting to help push his side over the finish line, helped by star recruit Chris Lynn – who contributed 64 runs on a famous night at the Adelaide Oval.

‘Heart rate is going through the roof,’ he told Fox Sports. ‘Crowd was awesome throughout the game. It’s unreal just to chase that down.

‘The boys were flat at half time but it was nice to play with a bit of freedom and yeah, job done.

‘We knew that they might have been a bowler short so we tried to target them as much as possible.

‘When you’re chasing something that big you have to go every oval, Lynny was telling me to play every ball as it comes.’
