Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm and Married At First Sight’s Ryan Gallagher announce their engagement

Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm and Married At First Sight star Ryan Gallagher are engaged.

The couple, who met Channel 10’s new reality show The Challenge last year, confirmed the happy news on Monday. 

The reality star, 34, proposed to Emily, 30, at a dam on his farm near Goulburn, NSW.

He presented the swimming star with a trilogy diamond ring from Goulburn’s Zantis Jewellers, which features a large square centre stone to represent their love flanked by two smaller diamonds to represent the couple.

‘When you know you know,’ Ryan told Woman’s Day. ‘I did get nervous though. The box was making a bit of a bulge in my pocket. So either she knew I was proposing or she just though I was happy to see her!’ 

Meanwhile Emily explained the couple’s fast tracked engagement follows the theme of their blossoming romance. 

‘We knew by the last week (of The Challenge) we had feelings there,’ she told the magazine. 

She said it was at that moment she had to make the call to end her relationship with her then-boyfriend. 

‘Obviously it wasn’t a nice call to make, but I told him what was going on and that there was something there with Ryan and I didn’t see the point in wasting any more time.’

Emily and Ryan are planning on getting married in the next couple of years in a ceremony on the Gold Coast and in the meantime are planning a huge engagement party.

The couple first sparked rumours they were engaged back in December after Emily was spotted wearing another diamond ring on her finger.

That came after they went Instagram official earlier in the same month. 

‘Ryan is a gentleman and the kindest person I have met. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us,’ Emily has said of their relationship.

The pair explained they kept their romance secret for months because they were starring on The Challenge together.

‘We eventually got the shits and put our own photo up,’ Ryan said. 

‘We just did it, it’s our relationship and there’s nothing negative about it.’

Ryan rose to fame on season five of Married at First Sight in 2018, where he was paired with Davina Rankin.
