Road rage incident leads to old man being hit with shovel

  • A man, 70, has been attacked by three men after a heated road-rage exchange
  • The elderly man was driving on a main road in Queanbeyan at 10pm on Saturday
  • The victim was attacked with a garden shovel before being kicked to the ground 

A 70-year-old man has been attacked with a shovel by three men in their 20s after a heated road-rage exchange.

The elderly man was driving on Southbar Road in Queanbeyan, south east of Canberra, just after 10pm on Saturday.

Three men drove erratically behind the 70-year-old driver before overtaking and verbally abusing him, police report.

The men got out of their car and hit the old man with a garden shovel at the back of his head before punching and kicking him to the ground.

A passerby tried to intervene but he was also assaulted before the attackers drove off. 

Paramedics took both men to hospital including the 70-year-old driver who had suffered from a deep cut to his head and bruised ribs.
