Woman critical after Sydney hit and run

A woman is in a critical condition after a hit and run incident in Sydney’s east which killed her dog.

The 47-year-old woman was first struck by a Toyota Corolla as she ran across Fitzgerald Avenue, Maroubra, with her dog about 7.15pm on Friday.

The woman came to rest on the opposite eastbound lanes, but was struck by another older vehicle.

The vehicle dragged her a short distance but failed to stop after the collision.

The dog received serious injuries and died at the scene. The woman was taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition and remains in an induced coma.

The 19-year-old male driver of the Corolla was uninjured.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
